Heater Quit on You?

Sacramento winters aren't brutal, but 38 degrees at night with no heat gets old fast. We'll figure out what's wrong and give you options—not a sales pitch.

"Heater repair" covers a lot of ground. Could be a gas furnace, a wall heater, a heat pump, a floor furnace—we've worked on all of them since 1981.What we usually find:Gas furnaces: Igniter that cracked (they're ceramic, they wear out), flame sensor covered in gunk, inducer motor dying, or a control board that finally gave up. Sometimes it's just a tripped rollout switch from a dirty burner—five minute fix, but you have to know what you're looking at.Wall heaters: Pilot won't stay lit, thermocouple's shot, or the gas valve is sticking. Older units have standing pilots that waste gas year-round. Might be time to talk about an upgrade.Heat pumps: Different animal entirely. Reversing valve stuck, defrost board failing, aux heat running nonstop. See our heat pump page if that's what you've got.The weird stuff: Floor furnaces in old Sacramento homes. Gravity heaters from the '60s. Radiant ceiling heat. We've seen it all. If it makes heat and it's broken, we can probably fix it.Point is—we diagnose first. You'll know exactly what's wrong before we talk about money.

1

Safety First, Then Diagnosis

Gas appliances get respect. We check for leaks and carbon monoxide before anything else.

Learn More

Heaters burn fuel. That means gas leaks, carbon monoxide, and combustion issues are real concerns—not scare tactics.First thing we do is check for safety problems: gas leak detection around the unit and connections, CO levels in the room and at the flue, proper venting and draft, heat exchanger inspection on furnaces.Once we know it's safe to work on, we dig into the actual problem. Electrical testing, gas pressure checks, component inspection. We're not just looking at the part that failed—we're checking what caused it to fail.If we find a cracked heat exchanger or a venting problem, we'll tell you straight. Some things aren't worth repairing.

Here's What We Found

Plain English explanation. Three options to fix it. You pick.

Learn More

No jargon dump. No scare tactics. Just "here's what's wrong, here's what it takes to fix it."You get three options:Get it running: Minimum repair to restore heat tonight. Makes sense if you're selling the house or just need to get through the week.Fix it right: The repair plus anything else that's about to go. What we'd do if it were our house.Have the conversation: If the repair costs more than the unit's worth, or if it's a safety issue that's not worth fixing, we'll tell you. Sometimes replacement is the honest answer.Prices are flat-rate. You see the number before we start. No "well, once we got in there..." nonsense.

3

Same-Day Repair

Common parts on the truck. Most heaters fixed the same visit.

Learn More

Our trucks stock what actually fails: igniters, flame sensors, thermocouples, gas valves, control boards, blower motors, capacitors.Eighty percent of repairs, we've got the part. Fix it same day, you've got heat tonight. For the oddball stuff—obsolete wall heater parts, old floor furnace components—we'll track it down. Usually next day from our suppliers. If it's going to take longer, we'll tell you upfront and talk about options. We don't do the "let me order that and come back in a week" runaround.

4

Test, Verify, Clean Up

We run it through a full cycle and make sure it's actually fixed. Then we get out of your way.

Learn More

Repair's not done until the heater proves it works. We run it through a full heating cycle: confirm ignition sequence, check flame signal and burner operation, verify temperature rise, test safety controls, make sure the thermostat's communicating right. Then we clean up. Tools packed, packaging gone, work area looks like we were never there. You get a receipt showing exactly what we did, what parts we used, and what's covered. If we spotted anything else you should keep an eye on, we'll note that too—no pressure, just information.

Frequently Asked Questions

My heater won't turn on. What should I check before calling?
Check your thermostat batteries and settings first. Make sure it's set to 'heat' and the temperature is set higher than your current room temp. Check your circuit breaker—if it's tripped, flip it back. If the pilot light is out on an older unit, that's your culprit. If none of that works, call us.
Is it dangerous if my heater smells like burning?
A brief burning smell when you first turn on your heater in fall is normal—that's dust burning off. If the smell persists, gets stronger, or smells like rotten eggs (gas), turn off the system immediately and call us. Don't wait on gas smells.
Should I repair or replace my old heater?
General rule: if the repair costs more than half of a new system and your heater is over 12-15 years old, replacement usually makes more sense. We'll lay out both options with real numbers so you can decide.
Do you repair all heater brands?
Yes. Carrier, Lennox, Trane, Rheem, Goodman, Bryant, American Standard, York—you name it. We work on all makes and models, not just the brands we sell.
How quickly can you get here for heater repair?
We offer same-day service when available, and we have 24/7 emergency service for no-heat situations. Members get priority scheduling and skip the regular queue.
