What To Know

What if I sell my home?

If you go with one of the PACE programs offered by your county, the system stays with the property and not with you as the homeowner. Solar homes sell for more money and sell faster than homes without solar. Who doesn’t want a home with a guaranteed low electric bill?

How will solar panels look on my roof?

Fabulous! The panels are modern and sleek looking with a low profile design. We have pictures of our work to show you during the in-home consultation.

Is financing available?

Yes! In your area there are county programs called “PACE Programs” that offer financing by paying for the system through your property tax bill. Our salesperson will go over that with you though in the in-home consultation. And, if those programs are not available in your area, then the best source of financing is usually the bank or finance company that you currently work with.

What if I need a new roof?

Whenever that time does come, you will need to include the cost of around $2k-$4k with the cost of replacing your roof. This would include us taking down the system safely, storing it for you safely on the premises and re-installing the system when you tell us your re-roof has completed. The cost will be towards the lower end if it’s the same roof material and the same pitch. But, if you are changing roof pitch and material the cost will increase because new hardware will be used.

How long will my installation take?

This depends mostly on the size of the system, site access, and the distance between the array(s) and the main service. In general, installation takes between 1-3 days with 2-3 workers on job site.

What type of panels do you use?

We typically use SolarWorld panels that are American made. The panels can withhold extreme weather conditions, high winds and snow loads. They are rated higher than any other solar panels under UL standards. We do have access to all panels, so if you have a preference the salesperson can go over that with you.

Will my system still generate power during a blackout?

For the safety of workers during power outages, solar systems that are connected to the electric grid are required by utility regulations to shut off during blackouts. Battery backups are recommended or traditional generators in places where blackouts occur regularly.

Do I get paid for my extra energy production?

Currently, most of America is under a system known as Net Metering, which allows your net electricity costs to be reduced to zero, but no further. In a select few places in the U.S., you can be paid for any excess electricity you create, in what is known as a Feed-In Tariff system. This will have to be a question to give to your local utility provider for further explanation.

It pays for itself and increases the value of our home.

JR Putman installed a solar system on our roof. Their prices were very competitive, and their service was extremely professional. Ashley Roberts, the Solar Division Manager, handled everything, answered all of our questions, and followed up to make sure that everything was complete and working correctly. I definitely would recommend them to anyone who is considering solar.
